Dr Zhipeng Ma is currently a Lecturer at the School of Chemical Engineering, UNSW Sydney. He obtained his PhD in Chemical Engineering from UNSW in 2022 under the supervision of Scientia Professor Rose Amal.
His research focuses on electrocatalysis for the production of chemical feedstocks, including ammonium, urea, syngas (CO+H₂), formate, ethylene, performic acid, ethylene oxide, and ethylene glycol. His work aims to develop highly efficient catalyst materials, optimize process and reactor/unit designs, and enhance catalyst activity, stability, product selectivity, and process scalability.
His specific research projects include:
- Developing NOxRR systems for ammonia/ammonium production.
- Designing, developing, and optimizing catalysts for the production of ammonium, urea, and various hydrocarbons.
Conducting mechanistic studies to explore surface chemistry and reaction pathways for selective CO₂ reduction and efficient conversion of CO₂ reduction products (syngas, formate, ethylene, etc.) into value-added chemicals via electrocatalysis.
