Dr Yi Lin

Dr Yi Lin is an associate research fellow at the National Institute of Aerospace (NIA) and resides in the Advanced Materials and Processing Branch (AMPB) at the NASA Langley Research Center. He is currently a co-PI for IRAD projects focusing on advanced carbon nanomaterials and processing techniques for energy storage solutions toward future electric aircrafts and space exploration missions. He is also conducting research on characterization of laser-treated composite surfaces for adhesive bonding. He recently received the NASA Exceptional Technology Achievement Medal in 2017 for his discovery and development of holey graphene material and related applications. Dr. Lin received B.S. (1996) and M.S. (1999) degrees in Polymer Chemistry at the University of Science and Technology of China, and Ph.D (2004) in Chemistry at Clemson University. He was a research assistant professor at Clemson University in 2004–2006. He became a NASA postdoctoral fellow in 2007 and resided in AMPB since then. He joined NIA in 2009 and was promoted to his current title in 2015.
