ARC Centre of Excellence for Carbon Science & Innovation Hosts Inaugural International Conference on Advances in Carbon Science and Innovation
The ARC Centre of Excellence for Carbon Science & Innovation (COE-CSI) successfully hosted its inaugural International Conference on Carbon Science and Innovation (ICACSI) last week in Sydney, Australia.
The conference attracted over 240 participants from 15 countries and provided a dynamic platform for scientists, engineers, researchers, and students from diverse disciplines to share the latest breakthroughs in carbon science and innovation.
Chaired by Centre Director Scientia Professor Liming Dai, ICACSI supported a comprehensive program including plenary, themed, keynote, invited and oral talks, as well poster presentations. Discussions spanned five key themes: carbon materials, characterisation, and modelling; carbon for catalysis; carbon for energy; carbon for environment; and carbon for biomedicine.
The conference also featured a panel discussion at the Journal Editors Forum, chaired by Centre Chief Investigator Professor Yan Jiao. The panel explored the topics of interdisciplinary publishing, driving high-impact research, open access, and more.
In her closing remarks as event MC, Centre Deputy Director Scientia Professor Rose Amal AC emphasised the importance of collaboration to drive innovation in carbon science and address global climate challenges.
“One clear message from the conference’s lectures is that collaboration is key to solving all these great challenges,” Professor Amal said.
“We need collaboration across various fields to turn scientific advancements into solutions that work in the real world.”
Professor Amal also shared a quote from Louis Pasteur that captured the spirit of ICACSI: “Science knows no country because knowledge belongs to humanity, and it is the torch that illuminates the world.”
Thank you to all the speakers who travelled to attend ICACSI and shared their research and insights on carbon science and innovation, and congratulations to the oral and poster presentation winners.
Thank you as well to ICACSI’s sponsors: the Australian Research Council, NSW Government, UNSW Sydney, Advanced Materials, Carbon Energy, Merck, Zeiss, International Universities Climate Alliance, AXT, Frontiers in Materials, and Australian Vacuum Services. Without your generous support, ICACSI 2024 would not have been possible.
Finally, thank you to the COE-CSI staff and volunteers for their amazing work.
